Earth Institute- Columbia University


The Earth Institute focuses on sustainable development and the needs of the world's poor. The Earth Institute is motivated by the belief that science and technological tools already exist, and could be expanded, to greatly improve conditions for the world's poor. The Earth Institute connects the academic community to public service on a global scale while integrating multiple disciplines in pursuit of solutions.

 

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine
 

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an international postgraduate centre of excellence, devoted to research, education and training, and consultancy.  It has extensive links with UN organizations, health ministries, universities, non-governmental organizations and research institutions worldwide and is involved in numerous programs to control diseases of poverty and to develop more effective systems for health care. The School prides itself on its links with developing countries and is committed to increasing such partnerships.  LSTM includes the Liverpool Associates in Tropical Health (LATH) and houses the secretariat for the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (GAELF), both of which are active in NTD control activities.

 

Helen Keller International 

Established in 1915, Helen Keller International works in 23 countries to save the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.  HKI combats the causes and consequences of blindness and malnutrition by establishing programs based on evidence and research in vision, health and nutrition. HKI's programs address malnutrition, cataract, trachoma, onchocerciasis (river blindness) and refractive error.

 

International Trachoma Initiative


The International Trachoma Initiative (ITI) was founded in 1998 by the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation and Pfizer Inc. and is dedicated to the elimination of blinding trachoma. The ITI approach is targeted support of country programs for expanded implementation of the SAFE strategy: Surgery, Antibiotics (Zithromax donated by Pfizer), Face washing, and Environmental change, to eliminate disease.

Schistosomiasis Control Initiative


The Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI) at Imperial College London primarily assists governments to establish national control programs which would provide treatment against schistosomiasis and intestinal helminths to high risk population groups in eight countries in Africa (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Mali, Niger,Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia).

 

Sabin Vaccine Institute

For nearly two decades, the Sabin Vaccine Institute has been a leader in vaccine research, advocacy and sustainable solutions delivery for the world's most vulnerable populations. In addition to its international advocacy work on behalf of vaccines and infectious diseases, Sabin is home to the Global Network and the Human Hookworm Vaccine Initiative - two innovative programs that work to combat the world's most neglected diseases. Through its scientific perspectives, pioneering approaches and network of global partnerships, Sabin is creating a world where needless suffering is eliminated.
